Festival #6
28 & 29 March — 2024Desire
Printing Fashion returns with its #6th edition. The Festival creates a space for discussing the trajectory and evolution of printed media and the fashion of printed publication today, featuring key contributors in the field. Through debates, lectures and conversations, this year we will explore the concept of ‘Desire’. Our guests will survey this idea in connection with various aspects: the aspirational value of images and image-making, the commodification of bodies and the problem of representation in fashion media, the relation between sexuality, fashion and printed media, the increasing desire and fashionability of working in creative industries, the appeals of activism and political discourses in popular media and finally the increasing allure of fashion brand archives.

Festival #4
24 & 25 March — 2022Transformations
On Thursday 24th and Friday 25th March 2022, the MA in Fashion Studies at The New School Parsons Paris organizes the fourth edition of Printing Fashion. This year we host different round-tables, lectures and conversations around the theme of transformations. The printing publishing industry has suffered a radical shift in the last twenty years and the advent with the digital has forced the different practices and actors – from production to distribution and consumption – to rethink themselves. This year we will reflect on a variety of transformative practices including the passage from print to digital, the transformative powers of making a magazine, the role of printed matter and collecting in the construction of identities, the activation of printed matter via technological innovations in fashion libraries, the role of graphics and art direction in materializing ideas. This year we will investigate all these shifts particularly reflecting on the contemporary transformation of the discourse in fashion media with an increasing affirmation and attention on issues of inclusivity and identity politics.

Festival #3
12 & 13 March — 2021Values
On Friday 12th and Saturday 13th March, the MA in Fashion Studies at The New School Parsons Paris organizes the third edition of Printing Fashion. This year we host different round-tables, lectures and conversations around the theme of value. The discussion will investigate the economic transactions behind the making of the magazine, the cost and conventions of print, the placement of advertisements in magazines, precarity in image-making and criticism, but also the necessity of a magazine and its creators to expand their revenues beyond the pages of the magazine. This edition will also explore the issue of value in relation to the ideologies and missions of magazines to investigate their capacity to be vectors for discourses on inclusivity while disrupting normative imaginaries in contemporary culture. On the occasion of Printing Fashion #3, the MA Fashion Studies is organising the exhibition ‘Printed Dialogues’ in collaboration with @ MAD Paris Bibliothèque with an intervention by RareBooksParis.

Festival #2
6 & 7 March — 2020Printed Dialogues
On Friday 6th and Saturday 7th March 2020, the MA in Fashion Studies at The New School Parsons Paris organizes the second edition of the Festival ‘Printing Fashion’ in collaboration with the MAD Paris. ‘Printing Fashion’ creates in Paris an independent space for discussion for practitioners, critics, academics to explore the contemporary role and value of fashion media via the specific lens of printed publications. This second edition hosts different round-tables and master-classes exploring the theme of time. The discussions will investigate issues of production, distribution, recycling and discharge of fashion publications; the ephemeral nature of editorial projects; the times and spaces of fashion criticism and shows’ reports; the role of magazines in archives and museums and finally the magazine as a platform for thought. On the occasion of the Festival, the exhibition Printed Dialogues (6 – 16 March 2020) will be opened at Bibliothèque MAD Paris.
